Ethan had not written home since he'd arrived at Hogwarts in early September; frankly, he'd practically forgotten about home. He never missed it. While he loved his family, this school was much more fun and time-consuming than spinning his wand between his fingers at home. There was never anything to do there!
This morning, however, the Hufflepuff had received an owl from his mother that had PARANOID written all over it. Was he okay, how were classes, what was he doing, was he okay...He would have to find some time to write her to lay her worries to rest.
Now was that time. It was after his afternoon classes, and Ethan trudged up into the Owlery with a letter in his hand. His familiar for school was a rat, not an owl, so he had to use school ones in order to send his mail. He didn't mind; he loved his familiar.
Calling one of the birds down, he tied the letter to its leg and watched it disappear into the distance. The evening air was cool as it swept through his short blonde hair. He leaned on the window sill, closing his eyes in a relaxed manner as the silence filled the room, the only sound being the shuffling of small bird-feet.
Ethan didn't stand in one place very often; it felt odd. He turned away from the window to leave the Owlery, no longer needing to be here. He opened the door and reacted very poorly to the fact that someone had been entering at the precise moment he was exiting; he yelped and jumped back, having not been paying attention and definitely not expecting to see someone.
He chuckled at his response and caught his breath, his heart still hammering from the surprise. "Y-y-you sc-scared the shit out of me!" he exclaimed.
